With many years experience in boating the current owner of “Seabear” decided he wanted a true expedition vessel to cruise and enjoy places in Australia and the Pacific.
In 2006 he had ASEA Yacht Designs in Australia draw up his plans and engaged Amanda Industries Pte Ltd Singapore to build this vessel in their own shipyard in Vietnam under the supervision of a highly experienced New Zealand boat builder who oversaw the full project.
Taking his time to put all he needed in accessories including all the wiring required to run through the vessel he packed 2 containers and headed to the shipyard with Australian tradesmen and in particular Cairns Auto Electrical doing all the electrical work and other contractors to work with and alongside the local tradesmen keeping a good eye on quality control. The build took shape and after 17 months “Seabear” was in the water and built to Lloyds Class VTU0400110 and all went extremely well and along with his crew the owner headed to his homeport in Queensland. Powered with dual 320HP Caterpillar 3406 (derated from 600HP) she cruised at 9.7 knots and used only 60 litres per hour giving her a 2,200 nautical mile range with her owner more than happy with the results and with the Wesmar stabilisers fitted she ran like a dream.
The last extended trip by the owner was to take “Seabear” to New Zealand to explore the great cruising areas of the North and South Islands of this beautiful country and after 7 months and all areas explored it was time to come home so “Seabear” cruised back home with a total of 3500 nautical miles under her hull. Numerous other cruises were undertaken in Australia to Cairns and the Great Barrier reef areas.
